Bishop Robert R. Roberts Memorial

WWeary from the day's ride, with evening fast approaching, the Bishop often found himself between lodging accomodations along the trail, At such times he would sleep on the ground. His saddlebags, containing his Bible and personal belongings in one side and oats for his horse in the other, would be removed and hung over a tree branch.

This allowed the horse access to the food while the Bishop concentrated on his evening prayers and devotions. He would then retire under the stars, holding the reins in his hand through the night.

What more fitting tribute than a limestone carving as pictured below.
