Late in the summer of 1999 there was a request in the At You Service column in the local paper - The Times-Mail of Bedford,IN

This request was from Larry Goettel, desiring to make contact with the Roberts families of the area who might have information about Bishop Roberts.

I phoned Larry, anticipating the discovery of yet another Roberts cousin.

Instead I found a man with a dream....not a family member. He has spent years researching the area of Lawrenceport,IN and the life of Bishop Roberts. I soon learned how little I really knew.

Larry was close to giving up his dream of seeing a permanent memorial to Bishop Roberts placed in Lawrenceport. On March 24, 2001 he put forth one last and quite successful effort to get the admirers and relatives of the Bishop to take part in his dream.

The dream has come true !

The memorial was dedicated
Saturday September 29, 2001 at 10am
"near the crossroads"
in Lawrenceport, IN
and Larry was officially adopted as a Roberts Cousin

On August 4th, 2001 friends, admirers and members of the Roberts family met
and officially formed
the
Bishop Robert R. Roberts Memorial Assn.
"to preserve the memory of Robert R. Roberts
and maintain and protect the memorial placed in his honor"
