BIOGRAPHY
Thom started drawing and painting as a youth in Michigan, where he would wander the forest and farms looking for scenes to paint.
During his teen years he attended the Flint Institute of Art where he worked with several artist.
He joined the Navy so he could travel and paint, while stationed in Southern California he traveled the Desert Southwest painting.
I spend several days at the places I paint, observing from mornig to evening, looking for simple but strong compositions.
Sometimes when hiking I will see a scene I have been past a hundred times, you cannot find anything without looking.
When I do start painting I have no formula, I just let the scene and the painting guide me.
